Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Full Lace

Made since 1775

The Blue Fluted pattern is part of Denmark's cultural heritage. To connoisseurs all over the world it is synonymous with Danish porcelain. Blue Fluted is Royal Copenhagen's very first porcelain dinner service and is to Danish underglaze decorated porcelain what the costly Flora Danica is to Danish overglaze decorated porcelain: a measure of the skill, tradition and craftsmanship at Royal Copenhagen.

The delicate and versatile pattern was adopted by the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory when it was founded in 1775. The identification number printed on the bottom of each piece is therefore No. 1.

The Blue Fluted service dates from the 1770s and was one of the first patterns to be used when the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1775. Although the pattern originated from China and has been used in a multitude of varieties by porcelain factories all over the world, the Danish Blue Fluted has gained its world fame as the true Blue Fluted. This is due to the fact that in Denmark the pattern is still painted by hand by specially trained craftspeople; a tradition still carried on today by a new generation of porcelain painters – It is worth noting that it takes 1,197 brush strokes to paint a Blue Fluted dinner plate. The Blue Fluted series became popular immediately, has never gone out of fashion, and has been the most sought-after of the Royal Copenhagen dinner services ever since.

The Blue Fluted pattern is produced in three different designs: Blue Fluted Plain, Blue Fluted Half Lace and Blue Fluted Full Lace. The Blue Fluted Plain service forms the basis of several other fluted services. It was refined, resulting in first the Blue Fluted Full Lace and then the Blue Fluted Half Lace services.

Blue Fluted Full Lace has actually been in existence since 1775, but originally only in the form of dessert plates. It was initially developed as a full service just over 100 years later, in 1888. In common with the Plain and Half Lace services, all lids are decorated with pretty snail shells, and all parts are assembled, painted and glazed by hand. In the openwork lace border of mussel decorations, each individual hollow is cut out by hand and represents the ultimate in elegant modeling.

The Blue Fluted pattern offers much more than a dinner service. It also includes a large selection of exciting accessories that will be enjoyed by anyone with an affinity for classic design.

All items of Blue Fluted Full Lace are assembled, painted and glazed by hand.
